Duties include the following:

  • Fill super sacks with sugar, operate the industrial machine, stack 50 pound bags of sugar on pallets
  • Operate a forklift
  • Clean and scrub walls and floors with brushes, brooms, vacuums, and mops
  • Shovel and loosen hardened sugar in the silos and in bulk rail cars
  • Be able to lift 20 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds

Sidney Sugars Incorporated, located in Sidney, MT, a subsidiary of American Crystal Sugar Company, currently has an opening for an Agriculturalist. The purpose of this position is to provide agronomic expertise to growers in the production of a high quality beet crop that increases the recoverable sugar per acre. Manage harvest operations and beet storage for assigned areas. Manage grower relationships within corporate guidelines to attract and retain sugar beet growers. The principal accountabilities of this position include:

  • Make recommendations to assist growers in the production of a high quality beet crop with an increase in recoverable sugar and minimal production costs.

  • Maintain Agriculture Reporting System to ensure appropriate information is available for decision making purposes.

  • Maintain current knowledge of new research and technological changes to ensure growers receive up-to-date information on sugar beet agriculture.

  • Assist in the implementation of new technology in crop production.

  • Assist growers with harvest equipment and improved harvest techniques to maximize sugar recovery per acre.

  • Effectively manage receiving stations, supervise harvest crews, and ensure compliance with Company policies during harvest.

  • Promote beet seed variety selection to growers to contribute to the profitability of SSI. To be successful in this position requires an agri-business background typically gained through the completion of a degree in Agronomy, Ag Economics or a related field with two to three years of experience. Effective oral and written communications skills, supervisory skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with growers are also required. A valid driverˇ¦s license is required. CCA certification preferred.

Agricultural Intern

Sidney Sugars Incorporated, located in Sidney, MT, is a food manufacturing plant that produces sugar from sugarbeets. We are a subsidiary of American Crystal Sugar Company, the largest beet sugar producer in the United States. Sidney Sugars Incorporated utilizes a broad spectrum of unit operation and engineering fundamentals.

We currently have an opening for an Agricultural Intern.

Qualifications:
Candidates should be pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in agriculture or a related field. This includes but is not limited to Soil Science, Entomology, Weed Science, Agricultural Engineering, or Agricultural Education. The candidate needs computer skills in word processing, EXCEL, PowerPoint, and data base management. The applicant needs good communication skills, be a self-starter, and a good time manager. He or she must be willing to work out of doors to assist with analyzing problems in grower’s fields, make grower visits, and learn to provide solutions to growers that help them produce a high quality, high yielding crop. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license.

Job Duties:

  • Verify field locations of contracts
  • Collect cultural practices data
  • Survey fields to identify weed species, root and/or leaf diseases, insects present, take stand counts for emergence
  • Assist with field sampling for yield and quality
  • Prepare receiving stations for harvest
  • If the applicant can work Oct. 1 to Nov. 1, they will supervise crews that operate receiving station equipment to unload and store the crop delivered by producers.
