CareersSidney Sugars employs on average 90 year round employees, 30 management employees, and over 150 harvest and seasonal employees. We are a sugarbeet factory. When the beets are processed for the season, we use the down time or turn around time for repair and maintenance of all of the equipment that processes the beets and makes them into saleable sugar. We require skilled employees with technical training who can perform all the tasks needed to keep the factory running. Some of the job titles in the Technical I classification are Instrument Technician, Electrician, Machinist, Welder, Boiler House Operator, and Mechanic. The employees in this classification are year round with excellent benefits that include medical and dental insurance, life insurance, short term disability, 401(k), pension, and vacation, sick, and holiday pay. On the job training is available for the Tech II positions such as Sugar Boiler, Centrifugal Operator, Special Chemist, Head Oiler, Carbonator, and Packaging Line Operator. Employees who hold these positions have an excellent chance for advancement to Tech I jobs. Employees who begin at entry level are seasonal but have many chances for advancement to the technical positions if they desire to develop their skills and take advantage of the on the job training opportunities. Entry level duties include general sanitation, operation of a forklift or a front end loader, and various positions which operate stations that slice and process the beets. Seasonal employees qualify for limited medical benefits. Harvest employees work during the time that the beets are pulled from the fields and trucked into one of the six receiving stations. The typical harvest begins October 1 and ends in approximately 2 weeks depending on the weather. These employees have the opportunity to work in the factory during the processing time. About thirty persons have salaried positions with opportunities in management, supervisory, accounting, coordinators, and support staff. Formal training is required; however, on the job training is available for the support staff. Excellent computer skills in spreadsheets and word processing are required as well as basic knowledge of math, spelling, and grammar. The Sidney, Montana area has much to offer a family with excellent schools and a progressive hospital. Recreation includes hunting upland birds, waterfowl, and big game; fishing, canoeing, softball, soccer, golf, and cultural events. Sidney is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. |
